BFF Brings Film Industry to NWA

The Bentonville Film Festival (BFF) returns to Northwest Arkansas for a fifth year on May 7-11 with an exciting lineup of film screenings, studio premieres, industry panels, headlining concerts, parties, A-list guests and more!

Founded by Academy Award-winning actress Geena Davis and Inclusion Companies CEO Trevor Drinkwater, BFF shines a light on the female and minority filmmakers who are blazing trails in media and the entertainment industry.

In partnership with the Geena Davis Institute on Gender in Media, BFF works to promote underrepresented voices in the entertainment industry with realistic portrayals of gender and diversity in film and media. Its mission is a winning one. The festival has grown by leaps and bounds since it started in Bentonville in 2015. Last year, 85,000 festivalgoers attended events that included more 150 filmmakers, celebrities and industry leaders.

“Because we’re known as a very welcoming festival for intersectionality, more and more filmmakers and content creators are choosing to premiere here,” co-founder Geena Davis has said.

Much of the festival takes place around downtown Bentonville, so be on the lookout for community events like outdoor family films, a Cinco de Mayo celebration, a regional bike ride/movie adventure and film screenings at Bentonville’s modern theater experience, Skylight Cinema.

Each year, there are new exciting components added making this festival more and more unique. A-list celebrities are known to show up in restaurants and pubs around NWA during festival time. Last year, BFF welcomed notable guests including Meg Ryan, Busy Phillips, Stephanie Beatriz, Natalie Morales, and countless emerging and established independent filmmakers!

What to expect at this year’s festival:

  • Competition Films, Short Films & Episodic Blocks showcasing stories by emerging, diverse voices in cinema
  • Legacy Film Series highlighting pioneering films that changed the way diversity was seen on screen
  • Showcase Films following a mission and featuring recognizable talent behind and in front of the camera

  • “Geena & Friends” panel discussions promoting diversity, creating dialogue and inspiring action
  • The Celebrity Series of events
  • More TBA!
